Selling a junk car without a title

Documents that can help prove ownership
- Photo ID A valid government-issued ID that matches the ownership documents.
- Registration Current or expired registration in your name.
- Bill of sale Showing you bought the vehicle.
- Lien release If the vehicle was ever financed.
- Duplicate title A replacement title requested from the state.
- Other records Insurance cards or other paperwork tied to the vehicle.
Can you get a replacement title?
Often the cleanest route is a duplicate title . In New Jersey that comes from the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission, and in Pennsylvania from PennDOT. Rules differ by state and situation, so call and we'll point you in the right direction.

Can I sell a junk car without a title?
Often, yes. We can purchase many vehicles without a title, but we always need to confirm you are legally able to sell it. Requirements vary by state and by the vehicle's situation, so call with your year, make, model and what paperwork you have.
What do I need if I don't have the title?
Usually a valid photo ID plus registration or other ownership documents, such as a bill of sale or lien release. We'll tell you exactly what your vehicle needs before we schedule pickup.
What if the car is still financed?
If there is a loan on the vehicle, the lien usually needs to be paid off and released before it can be sold. Call and tell us your situation.
Will you buy a car that isn't in my name?
Only if you can show you are legally authorized to sell it. We do not buy stolen vehicles or vehicles the seller is not authorized to sell.
